Every morning, before heading to school, I turn on the TV to watch the news. Not because I care about current events or politics, but because I just want to see the accurate time always being displayed at the top of the screen.
In the morning, every second is much more precious than during the day or night.
At least, for me it is.
The pastry school I go to is strict about punctuality, and doesn't forgive even a minute of lateness.
The problem is, since I was a kid... I've never been a morning person.
That's why I always set up alarm clocks on my phone, plus extra ones lying around.
Right now, the time on the TV screen shows 6:20.
I glance at it sideways while opening the fridge.
There are eggs and bacon.
Vegetables... I could use some lettuce and tomatoes.
"Okay, my today's breakfast is a toast topped with bacon and eggs."
Do I have enough time for it?
I check the TV again, and it shows 6:21.
A news report about an accident is playing on the wide screen.
"Around 11 PM on the 17th, on a national highway in XX city, a car failed to navigate a curve and collided with..."
Listening to the announcer's words I tilt my head when I hear a name of a place I think I know.
Where have I heard it before?
I would ask someone, but my dad has already left for work, and my mom is still asleep.
I'm an only child, so no siblings to pester with questions.
And so, I try to think it over by myself.
"The occupants of the vehicle were company employee Satoru Takatou and his wife, Yoriko..."
"Wait, what?!"
I gasp at what the announcer says.
They're my uncle and aunt.
I don't know yet that that one accident is about to change my fate...
