Keiji Kouda, the protagonist, is an inconspicuous presence in his class, with no close friends, and is practically invisible to his classmates.
Fed up with this reality, Keiji is addicted to a network game set in a virtual fantasy world called "The Another World", nicknamed "TAW". Thanks to advances in computer networks and neuroscience, it's now possible to experience virtual worlds on the network as if they were real. TAW was gaining worldwide popularity as a network game that allowed players to feel a sense of reality , as if their own consciousness had been transferred to their virtual avatar .
Disguised as a magician named Gilbert Kessler, Keiji became more noticeable in TAW than in the real world. However, this alone was not enough to satisfy Keiji's pent-up desire for self-expression. Aiming to become the commander of a legion with many players and numerous fortresses , the surest way to gain fame in TAW that everyone know, he establishes his own legion. Keiji's army, in a territorial war, managed to acquire a fort in a location where several major armies were locked in a standoff, taking advantage of the power imbalance that made it difficult for them to attack. However, in order to satisfy his own desire for self-aggrandizement, Keiji needlessly provoked the major armies surrounding the fort he had acquired. As a result, the major armies, who had temporarily joined forces, attacked simultaneously, causing Keiji's army to lose the fort, and all of his army members, disillusioned with Keiji, to leave.
Unable to abandon his ambition to belong to one of the major armies, Keiji searched the internet in the real world for information on how to raise funds to rebuild his army. At that moment, he stumbled upon a program file. It was a powerful hacking program that could interfere with the core of TAW's game program . This hacking program could not only peek at other users' personal information but also rewrite the game's settings to his liking. However, what Keiji found most noteworthy was the function that allowed him to freely control even the safety measures placed on the feedback of information to the players. TAW has a high degree of unity between players and avatars, and various safety measures are in place because, in some cases, it could affect the player's mind and body. By freely controlling these safety measures, he could manipulate the target player's memories of what they did in the virtual world, while simultaneously planting only the feeling of being subjugated deep within their mind. By doing so, it should be possible to awaken that feeling of subjugation in the player and make them obey when certain conditions are met in the real world as well.
Keiji repeatedly tested the tool and confirmed that its effects were largely as he had predicted. Then, he decided to use the tool to take revenge on the commanders of the major armies who had joined forces with him to destroy his own army. In the real world, this meant subjugating and enslaving the women who had treated him like air, scorned him, and looked down on him... the players who were characters serving as commanders of the major armies. Driven by the dark desires lurking in his heart, Keiji meticulously planned his next move.
